“I think independent businesses are vitally important to our economy. We can serve a business sector that large corporations cannot serve because it’s not their business model.”
—Elizabeth Bell, Owner/Principal/Art Director/Graphic Designer
When describing what she and many people like her do, freelance graphic designer Elizabeth Bell refers to herself as one of the “Solopreneurs.”
Elizabeth understands that there are additional benefits to being an independent contractor, including the ability to schedule her own time and be involved in every aspect of the business. She can also provide her customers with personal service and face time, something big companies cannot do. “My clients like that they meet with the person whose name is on the door.”
She agrees that, as federal and state threats mount, independent contractors need to unite to protect their right to choose economic independence.
